0620 - We Can Not Loose

This banger Wednesday features two songs, the first comes from Vigel and is edited by Tom Swoon called Nothing To Lose.  A pretty entertaining track that does a lot things right.  Mixing the vocals in with the build, using really catchy and memorable melodic sequences, I enjoyed this track a lot (didn't love it but enjoyed it enough to share with you all!).
Second up is a dubstep song from Au5 and Fractal called Ison.  Overall, dubstep is not my favorite genre but I did really enjoy this track.  I hope you enjoy what it has to offer!

0596 - Pirates are Haunting the Mansion

So Pegboard Nerds may have made the most ridiculous Halloween Track to date.  Taking samples of both vocals and audio from Luigi's Mansion to make a Dubsteppy confusing soundscape.  The tonal sections are beautiful, and very reminiscent of the game, but the "Mario" vocal samples are a bit strange.  Overally not bad for a Halloween track, and I can't wait until this gets mixed into someone's set.  I CRAVE IT.
Saturday Night has been absolutely killing it by creating atmospheres for their songs, as both Sheriff and Saloon created such great visuals in my head.  Well they are back with another track called Pirates, and this one follows the formula to perfection.  With parts that sound like the orchestral soundtrack from Pirates of the Caribbean, to great drops that feel like a pirate ship is stalking you on the water.  Another great track, I can't wait to see what they do next!

0567 - Dream Like State

First up on this beautiful Monday is a track from Andreas called Awareness.  This one is beautifully relaxing, with a great chill bass and tonality that just feels kinda dream like.  Really chilled out with great progression, this one had me feeling like I just want to go back to bed and have this be the soundtrack to my sleep.
Also up today and very dreamlike comes a track from Sound Remedy and Illenium called Spirals.  The background art is a perfect descriptor for how it makes me feel, just beautiful and peaceful.  This song has a lot of calming energy behind it, and it is that energy which makes me glad to be here with all of you.  Enjoy!

0506 - Go For that Highscore

Banger Wednesday comes in hot and heavy this week with a track from Teminite and Panda Eyes called Highscore.  Living up to the name it does sound like very kick ass music you might hear during a late level in a video game or a boss fight.  It is really a huge track, mixing in great catchy tonal sequences with a huge bass.  Lots of variety in the movement of the song, and really putting me in quite an epic mood!  Give it a listen and enjoy!

0303 - Free Wubs For All The Bubs

As you all know, I am not a huge fan of Dubstep.  I like a few tracks, but the majority of it is like big room to me, either too simple and boring or super chaotic and unnecessary.  Melodic Dubstep is a totally different story in my book.  Not so in your face, great tonality, while still keeping the Dubstep style.  The Only by Synchronice is just that, a beautiful turned-down dubstep track that keeps you head bobbing through the vocal samples and the very well executed drop.  Give it a listen and you just need to follow on twitter to pick up the free download!

Second up today is a free Monstercat Track from Razihel, a dubstep track from the complete end of the spectrum.  This one has a great feel, isn't over glitchy, still maintains tonality, and has portions that come off very house.  I really enjoyed this one, and I hope that you do too!

0301 - Just Wait. Your Hero Is Coming

Welcome to day two of free week!

Today's first track is a remix of Hero, the breakout Pegboard Nerds hit that is one of many songs to help get Monstercat music on the map.  Nick Thayer gets his hands on this track and does something really cool with it, transitioning it into a very different sound.  Keeping the great build that makes the original great, he staggers the introduction stuff and turns the drop into much more a dubstep feel.  It still easily has the energy of the original, but gives it a new spin that just sounds so fluid.  Give it a listen and pick up the download!

Second up is the Elephante remix of Lemaitre's track Wait.  Elephante seems to keep popping up everywhere I look and his stuff never seems to disappoint.  This remix is very NuDisco and has a fantastic flow as well as mixing in of the great happy vocals.  It makes it a little heavier while still keeping the great tonality in check.  A truly great NuDisco remix!

0286 - Tuesday Critically Hits

This track from Space Laces had me at the name before I even hit the play button.  Since I hit it, I think I have replayed the song more than a few times.  This one features some sweet dubstep with a very futuristic feel to it.  Dungeons and Dragons is a sweet track, and for sure getting me back into being a fan of the dubstep genre.

0205 - I Wish You Could Have All Been There

So last night I got to see Dannic, Dyro, and Harwell and it was the best show I have been to in my entire life.  As I type this Monday morning I have 1 hour of sleep, aching feet/legs/back, and a ringing in my ears that wont seem to go away.  The damage and likely 10lbs lost to sweat was worth it though as it was easily the best 6 hours I have experienced in a long time.  If you don't know much about any or even just one of them, take the time to check them out because it really is worth your time.  I hope you all had a great weekend, but I am in recovery mode so that is the type of music on the docket today.

The first is from Vancouver Sleep Clinic, a newcomer on the scene who just released their first EP.  Every song off of the EP is chill, melodic, and just beautiful, and I think this one is my favorite.  It takes away to an entirely different place, one that has a feeling of safety, security, and love.  Check it out and help get over the Monday blues.

Also for you today, one of the best chill dubstep songs that I have heard in a very long time.  Melodic and great vocals mixed with a nice bass that isn't overwhelming and goes very well with the chill composure of the song.  SirensCeol, Reaktion, and The Eden Project come together to create something truly awe inspiring.  Let me know what you think!

0182 - The Return to Bangers

Normal week means its back to sharing Bangers on Wednesdays, and this week I have one for you that has been seriously stuck in my head for days.  The vocals are especially great, surprising considering that they are coming from a seemingly generic male voice.  The words stick with you though, i find myself saying "Don't go chasing what's gone, or you won't know when to hang on".  This one may not be a banger in terms of club play and such, but in terms of getting stuck in your head and sticking with you, it goes a long way.  Enjoy it!

0153 - Warm in Your Own Skin

The weekend is almost here, hold on everybody.  Just one day away from freedom, relaxation, and the Super Bowl!  Personally I plan to do a lot of sleeping, eating, and playing games online before going to class on Sunday before the Super Bowl.

This song is a bit outside my usual comfort zone of electro/prog house, a bit of dubstep.  Occasionally I find some really good dubstep, but overall I need the melodic tonality that comes with progressive house and electro house.  Most of the time dubstep cant provide me with that.  This one however gives me everything i need in a nice slowed down track, and I love Skrux for remix this piece together.  Enjoy it and I will see you back here tomorrow!

0106 - Short Week, Big Songs

Thanksgiving week is finally upon us!  A week of short work and school weeks, family, football, and celebration.  This means that it is already wednesday for most of you! (or thursday for those done on tuesday!)  I hope that you all have plans for this day, and if you don't, then reach out and help someone who may not have the opportunity to see their family for the holiday.  Quick story, that is what happened to me last year.  I was waiting tables at a new job and had to work thanksgiving day, so I was stuck in Delaware, Ohio while my entire family was in Michigan.  I was devastated, and very sad about this unfortunate situation.  Thankfully a local fraternity brother who worked at the same restaurant reached out and suggested I join his family for Thanksgiving.  I was overjoyed just to be around people, and not spending it alone in a room with microwave food and too much beer.  It made all the difference in my life, and I hope that this inspires you to do the same.  It was such a small gesture but went such a long way and I can't thank Preston and his family enough for that.
Even though it is a short week, it is still technically Monday which means mashup day is back once again.  Today's mashup I first heard on Hype Machine, a website devoted to streaming some of the best new original songs and popular remixes of those songs.  With a play as you browse tool, you never have to worry about the song stopping because you want to search something else.  Dada Life is one of the first live acts I saw in terms of electronic music, and they blew me away.  Seriously, their music was mind blowing and likely one of the reasons I am where I am today.  This remix is god damn incredible, seriously a great dubstep mix with the awesome power that comes behind Dada Life's original.  Have a great night and I will see you all tomorrow!

074 - House of House

Gotta love double dose week eh?  Two awesome songs to listen to today, one of which you can have in your possession for the low low price of $0 (aka FREE).

Shockone is making huge splashes into the music-verse ever since their debut album dropped in April of this year.  I keep finding tracks off their album "Universus" that blow my expectations clear out of the water and this track is one of those for sure.  I first heard it in my car with my phone's music on shuffle, and was a little turned off by how dubsteppy it seemed (as you all know, I am not a huge fan).  But after listening to it all the way through, I found my self car dancing and loving every second of it.  Check this one out, and for sure check out Shockone's other material, because if this is any indication of the future work that will be produced, they are high on my "watch" list for sure.

The next track that I would like to share with you today is from someone who has a sound much similar to that of Mord Fustang, if you have never heard of him check out "Electric Dream" or "Lick the Rainbow".  Mostly derived from a very 8-bit-sounding progression, it has a very funky beat that gives into a very nice electro house song, not one that would be considered huge or played in shows, but still a very nice one to just kick back and relax to.  CHB is still pretty off the radar, but I find that artists off the beaten path usually produce some of the best stuff.  Give "Digital Fields" a listen and if you like it, check out the free download as well!

067 - Collaboration: Awesome + Favorite = Mind Blown

First of all, before I get into my big love for this song, if you haven't heard Krewella's new album, go listen to it now.  I honestly never thought much about Krewella and always pegged their music as nothing too exceptional.  I am one to admit my mistakes, I MESSED UP BIG TIME.  This album is honestly one of the best that I have heard in a long time.  Props to them for making something so exceptional, my favorite songs being "Come and Get It" as well as the one I am going to share with you today titled "This is Not the End".  Not only does this song appeal to just about every electronic music bone in my body, but it also features one of my favorite DJ groups, Pegboard Nerds.  I follow these guys religiously and download just about everything they put out because they continue to amaze me.  The combination of these two groups is really one for the ages, and easily the song to listen to off of Krewella's album.  Here's the kicker, Monstercatmedia is giving the song away for free.  Its for sure worth the download and I will provide the link below.  This track is dedicated to second chances!

063 - Banger Don't Quit

I did have a rant planned for today, but I am going to save it for a more applicable song, but today I will talk about Big Room (and thank you Adin for mentioning it).

Roughly once a week I like to go to Beatport and listen to the top few songs on the charts.  Over the summer I was sitting with my good friend (DJ XMFD) in his house doing just this.  When we found the top tracks we were blown away.  Don't get me wrong, the majority of the tracks were pretty good.  Nice build up, somewhat decent progression, but then the drop came.  GOOD LORD.  Words can not describe my surprise to hear such a simplistic and lazy drop.  My first though was, "this has to be a joke".  There are different ways of mixing and performing for an audience based on the venue and the amount of people present and I was familiar with the genre of Big Room, but still, I looked at my friend like "what is this shit".  We continued through the top 10 to find that at least 6 of the songs were Big Room.  As we continued talking about it, we presented the idea that if you just replaced the drop with the drop from another song, then the entire track would be fixed.  Sitting in a room with one other person and a speaker set, I was talking the truth.  I did not even consider that this would be much better at a large venue with thousands of people surrounding me.

Since then I have a bit more respect for Big Room, because I have found a few songs that are good on the more individual level (such as "Epic").  However, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and though I don't like to mix or listen to these songs now, I am guessing it is because my mind and performance experience (what little I have) is not fitting of this style.  That doesn't at all mean that I condemn the entire genre, I have hope for it as I do with all electronic music.

I love being surprised by a song, hearing the first few seconds of it with my finger on the "skip" button, and then pulling my hand away with my jaw dropped at how dumb I was for almost missing such an incredible song.  Drum and Bass really got me started into electro (Pendulum was the first group I knew by name), and this song reminds me of my beginnings so much that I honestly got a little nostalgic.  Nice build and quite a surprising turn around after the introduction to the song, this is quickly becoming one my favorite songs, and one of my favorites to drive to.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
