S2 #2: There's so much more to Adam Young (Owl City) than Fireflies

Let's change things up a little bit and give some music that might be a bit different from past postings!  While this was dedicated to electronic music before, I'm going to switch things up a little bit!  I'd rather talk about all music and showcase some unique styles!  One of my favorite guilty pleasure artists is Owl City.  His music style, his beautiful lyrics, his protection of his mental health, all of these make him so much bigger then just his hit song Fireflies.

Ready to Fly is a beautiful mashup of Didrick's wonderful fantasy musical style and Adam's beautiful vocals.  This one does ramp up and take more of a breakdown style drop that I think fits the style really well!

I'm also going to throw in one of my favorite songs off Owl City's newest album, Cocoa Moon. Under the Circus Lights paints such a beautiful picture of childhood wonder and those first early infatuations (no matter if it is calling, mission, or person).  One of my favorites with gorgeous background sounds and great additions through little bites!  Enjoy!

0631 - Bonus End of the Year Mixes

Figured I would make a bonus post with some of my favorite mixes of 2015.

Nik Cooper is a channel that produces a lot of huge bangin tracks covering everything from Progressive House to Melbourne Bounce to Electro House has put out a stellar mix that encompasses all 3 genres.  And the best part is, if you don't like one of the genres, he has put in links to allow you to jump past that genre.  It's worth your time I promise!

Armada who I am honestly not a fan of all the time (other than their deep house which has been on point lately) have also put out a stellar year mix.  Featuring their chill stuff all the way to the high intensity insanity, this one is not to be missed!

My favorite of the year for sure has to be the staff pick of 2015 version of the Monstercat Podcast.  Staying to their amazing reputation, Monstercat really kills it with this megamix.  With staff introductions throughout the podcast, it is cool to hear from all the people who provide some of the best music out there!  Give it a listen and I hope that you will love it as much as I do!

0425 - Killer Collab

Today's track comes from two of my favorite Monstercat artists, Tristam and Braken.  Both have put out incredible work solo, but now they come together to make a truly memorable piece.  Far Away has a lot of energy both chill and high, and though it may not have catchy chords, it really gets in your head.  Seeming very happy, this piece really got me excited and is for sure in my top 25 playlist.

0413 - Can You Handle the Power Hours?

About 2 hours of music for you today.  Maybe you are out of school, out of work, or still walking in the cold to class, thats why I decided to give you one track and two lengthy mixes to help you get through the insane day.  First is a track from Kakk Noire called Love Lines, its got vocals that are very relaxing, mixed very well with chill parts and transition into a nice heavy drop.  The first few times I listened to it, it seemed like the vocals were off by half a beat but after a few listens I realized this was done on purpose.  It lines up when it needs to, and overall its a pretty good song!

Hour long mixes give DJs a chance to shine, a chance to showcase their talents where an individual song may not let them.  Today I have 2 for you, the Best of Monstercat 2014 and Stadiumx's 2014 Year Mix.  Best of Monstercat of course contains the most popular Monstercat tracks from the year and has an amazing collection of tracks and flow.  Stadiumx brings another bit mix to the table with his 2014 mastermix.  Though only featuring 9 tracks, the mixing quality is pretty top notch and he makes each one feel like it flows flawlessly into the next.  Overall, a truly good end of the year mix!  Give everything a listen and I will see you back here for Funky Friday!

0375 - Be My Friend for the Holidays

Tristam returns to us today with a brand new drumstep track, My Friend.  This one has a chilled out feel for most drumstep, and has great levels of tonality throughout the entire track.  The vocals aren't overwhelming and are there just enough to get overshadowed by the rest of the track, not being the dominant part of the song.  Overall, a fabulously chilled out tonal drumstep track that I really enjoy, and I hope you do too!

0311 - Its Electronic, Not That Other 311

Today, the Mashup day long forgotten makes its return with two, one that is usually completely out of my wheelhouse.  As many of you know, Monstercat Music has been high on my list of favorites for some time.  They are actually celebrating their 3 year anniversary and got Didrick to do a live compilation remix of the best songs from their biggest tracks.  Featuring 78 songs and live music from beatpads to trumpets to guitar solos, this mashup is one of the best I have heard in a damn long time.  Celebrate their success and give this mashup a listen!  Bonus points for identifying songs!

Next up is a really cool mashup that is completely out of my wheelhouse.  This day used to be about mashups as a whole, not particular to electronic music.  I found a really cool one yesterday that takes 23 amatuer videos from youtube and mashes them up into a much better track.  Everything from a sick trombone to a little girl playing the piano, this video turns individual acts into a unique combination!  Listen for yourself!

0213 - Chill Dubstep Takeover

Usually I am not a fan of the big heavy dubstep, but there are certain variations that really get my blood going.  The biggest exception to that is chill dubstep, something about it just puts me in a really relaxed and "not a care in the world" mindset.  So today I have two of my recent favorite additions to this genre.

The first track is Locked Up from Larcy.  Once again, stellar vocals, and really a great synergy between the chill dubstep progression and drops.  This track just feels great all over, keeping tonality (which is usually my problem with dubstep) and adding it to dubstep drops.  Check it out for yourself!

Larcy - Locked Up (Free Download Here)

Next up, and easily one of my favorite songs right now is the new track from Trivecta, off the Monstercat label.  This one is nearly perfect in my opinion, at least the best put together dubstep song that I have heard in a long time.  Mixing together the vocals, vocal samples in the drops, still keeping things switching to keep the listener guessing, and adding great chord progression sequences throughout.  I hope you like this one as much as I did!

0195 - Ultra was Ultra (Updated 11:10 AM)

I hope you all caught some of the live streams from ultra that were being played all weekend because some incredible tracks were played and some very confusing actions took place.

First of all, Deadmau5 dropped an old mcdonald remix....I was literally speechless because I was so "WHAT ON EARTH IS HE DOING".  Overall though, some great sets were played.  My favorites were prolly from Hardwell, Armin Van Buren, Afrojack, Jack U, and Danny Avila (who I had never heard of before).  I will let you know when these sets become available because they are usually available for download very recently after the festival is over.  Armin's set is actually the first available and you can listen to it if you missed it here.  No mashup today as I didn't really find anything worthy of sharing.

First up is the video of Armin's set at Ultra. 45minutes pure happiness, great music, and burning jealousy that I couldn't be there myself.
Armin Van Buren Ultra 2014

UPDATE: Jack U (the new combination of Skrillex and Diplo just released their live set and it was pretty kick ass, check it out!

Second up is a something cool and new from Monstercat.  Did you know they have a podcast now?  No talk, a straight hour of music that will be coming out weekly (it seems).  They are already in their second week and let me tell you, it is a fantastic and pretty expertly chosen hour of music.  Check it out and see how it compares to your other podcasts!

0163 - The best thing about music?

The best thing about music in my opinion is its continuous ability to surprise.  Through thick and thin, it can come back every week and bring you something that blows your mind, changes your mind about an entire genre, and makes you gain respect for the style all over again.  That happened to me yesterday, when I was listening to the new track from Monstercat.  True, I saw the dark green (meaning Hard Dance) and got a little sad, its not my favorite genre as it seems always a bit too much in my opinion.  From the beginning i was hooked, starting with Piano? Thats one of my favorite things in tracks these days.  The point of too much never hit, it had big bass and dance potential but also remained melodic and fantastic throughout the entire track.  Check it out!

0128 - Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Everyone!  This post is coming a day late because I honestly made the post late at night and then was so caught up with my family that I just completely forgot to put it up.  I got some awesome gifts, but honestly I was just happy to be with my entire family.  To me, thats what Christmas is all about!
So here are two gifts from me to you today.  For the past 2 years, Monstercat has released a free christmas album.  Some of the tracks are a bit strange, but overall it is full of solid tracks that have a Christmas twist.  Its a name your price deal, so if you dont have any money to spare then you can just enter $0.00 and get the albums for free!  Enjoy and Merry Christmas!

099 - BOUNCE DAMNIT

So apparently there is a new subgenre called bounce.
Its fucking incredible.
Imagine ska trumpets + edm.
YEA. THAT GOOD.
Honestly, you all know I love Monstercat.  When ever there is a new song I get super giddy, but this one honestly blew all my expectations out of the water.....with a torpedo....made of biceps.  Seriously, this is my new favorite song.  Full of great rhythms and even a trumpet build...to a trumpet drop.  This song is the direction I hope that EDM can transition toward and get out of the boring and repetitive genres like Big Room.  Give it a listen and let me know what you think!

047 - Walk into that Rift

I hope that everyone had a nice day off yesterday (If you didn't I hope you celebrated like you had one off anyway).  Let me just say how much I love doing this, without you all, I honestly wouldn't be here.  I appreciate every single one of you, for real.  Ok, enough lovey dovey, lets get to the music.  Today's song is the new one from Bustre, an upcoming BIG BOI in the Monstercat DnB circut.  Riftwalk does not disappoint.  Right up the drum and bass alley, which to me is continually surprising.  Enjoy!

040 - Let's be Funky

Funky Friday is much needed this week.  Long and busy week can only yield an incredible and mindblowing weekend.  I will tell you all about mine on Monday!  This track that I bring you today is from Monstercat's new genre, Glitch Hop.  This genre has so much to offer and the new 110 bpm really brings a whole new flavor to electronic music.  VIP brings a an incredible new mix to Manslaughter's track, Let's be Friends.  Enjoy it and have an awesome weekend!

039 - The Nerve of Thirsty Thursday

Everyone who has ever read this blog knows there are two things I am obsessed with musically, Ellie Goulding and Monstercat.  Monstercat has been adding artists faster than most can keep up, but trust me, YOU NEED TO.  Just about 80% of the overall music that is posted is absolutely incredible so make a playlist on youtube, buy the albums, just find a way to listen to everything they put out. No seriously, everything.  One of the newer artists to appear on the label is Favright, one that I honestly know very little about.  After hearing Nerve, I know everything I need to about this artist.  Favright has a lot of talent, a metric shit-ton of potential, and I look forward to more tracks in the future.  Enjoy this one with the volume blasting and the bass turned up high.  Enjoy!

028 - Bangers are the End

Looking at Bangers, its very easy to see that melodies that are catchy make all the difference.  The track has to has that hook that gets stuck in peoples head and keeps them coming back for more.  For me, the new track from Hellberg did just that.  Great beat, awesome drops, and a perfect combination that left me speechless.  Enjoy Stockholm by Hellberg!

024/025 Double Funky Friday.....with Bacon

The final day of catch up week brings you a double dose of funky friday.
024- The newest Glitch Hop from Monstercat, by Haywyre.  This song is chill and incredible, just something that gets your head and is great to listen to.  This genre is one that is quickly becoming one of my favorites, enjoy!

024 - Haywyre - Synergy

025- The second track of the day is from the NuDisco genre, another one that has been ruling my playlists lately.  This song makes you want to move, even if it is just your head from the chair that you are sitting in.  Brand new artist, brand new channel that I have subscribed to, and is for sure worth a look!

025 - Sovate & Thomas Tonfeld - Let There Be Rythem

022/023 Day 3 of catch up week....Onions?

Hello, Hello everyone! Welcome to Thursday of Condiment Catch-up week!  Today we can play...i dont know... ONIONS! Sure, onions.  Today I bring you two fresh tracks that will keep your head bumping for sure.
022- The first is the new one from Hellberg and Deutgen, some of Monstercat's finest artists.  This is a heavy house song that should be stuck in your head for a long time, catchy vocals, an incredible drop, the whole thing will blow you away.

022- Hellberg & Deutgen - The End (Follow My Heart)

023- The second track today is part one of a 20min mashup by the king of unsuspected Mashups, Isosine.  If you like stuff that shouldn't work but does, you will really like his stuff.  Also, check out part two if you like it!

023- Isosine - Ninezero

019/020/021 - Today we Play Relish

Three more songs for ya in an attempt to get back on track with the music, Here we go.
019 - Since Mashup Monday was skipped entirely, lets throw a mashup in the mix. Those who listen frequently know I am a huge fan of Ellie Goulding, and this mashup is nothing short of some of her best work. The mashup comes to us courtesy of Isosine, the same guy who did the Slipknot/Justin Beiber Mashup. Its awesome, and a little poppy, enjoy!

019 - Isosine (Chvrches x Ellie Goulding) - Starry Eyed Gun

020 - Next up is the new track from the 8-bit sensation Adhesive Wombat. Not only does he have an awesome name, but he is one of the few artists to make 8-bit exciting to listen to, as opposed to running for cover and finding earplugs. Downforce does not disappoint and will be stuck in your head for weeks to come.

020 - Adhesive Wombat - Downforce

Finally, I bring you a real treat. Monstercat has started doing a "best of" series, basically taking the best tracks they have released from each genre and making a 1 hour mix out of them. This label is incredible and I freak everytime they release a song, let alone a Best Of mix. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

021 - Monstercat - Best of Electronic Music (1 hour)
