0174 - Free all Day

Since next week is going to be an all funk week, today will be all about the free stuff.

Have a few things for you today.  Starting first with a chilled out remix of The Crystal Method's Track Over it by the Bixel Boys.  This is super chill with great vocals and a perfect relaxation song.  With the perfect amount of small progression, bass infusion, and tones, this is a great weekend/summer song to let your cares melt away.  Pick up the free download and let me know what you think!

The Crystal Method - Over It (Bixel Boys Remix) FREE DL HERE

Next up is a pretty good house song from Case and Point, titled Desire.  The vocals are a little strange, not really conforming to the usual pauses and 4 beat constrictions.  The beats are good though and the song has great potential in the electro house genre, I would imagine that some really cool remixed could be made of this one.  Check it out and pick up the free download.

0173 - Bouncy Bounce

Today I have a very bouncy and fun track, nothing too heavy, nothing too serious.  A great feel good track from Manufactured Superstars and Danni Rogue called Like Satellites .  Its just a very well done progressive house track, don't expect something mindblowingly incredible or something generic and bad.  Its overall a great song, with vocals that take the song to a new level, and in my opinion make the song what it is.  Check it out below and I will see you back here tomorrow for some free songs!

0171 - EVERYONE STOP. I HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Tomorrow, at 3pm (I believe), Monstercat is offering their new album for free for only 2 hours.  You have 2 hours to pick up a whole album of awesome tracks, 28 artists spanning 13 genres.  GO HERE.

Monstercat 16 FREE Starting at 2/26 3pm

Onto the music, I am saving most of my funk for next week.  Oh by the way, its gonna be funk all week next week because I love it so much and I have so much of it now that I want to share all of it with you beautiful people.  10 tracks, 5 days, 1 love.

The White Panda is known for their mashups, not so much their remixes though.  Well thats all about to change.  The duo recently released a remix of Demons from Imagine Dragons and it is a great new spin on the track.  Not too over the top, not overwhelming in terms of bass and house stereotypes, its my new favorite version of the song.  Check it out below!

0170 - The Monday Antidote

I was planning on doing funk week this week, but I honestly don't have enough for a whole week of funk.  It is tentatively pushed back to a week from today.  I want to bring the best funk, not just some halfway decent junk.

Swedish House Mafia.  I can't even put into the words the awesomeness of the group.  This mashup by Inducers brings together one of their best tracks, Antidote, with Knife Party in a truly stellar combination.  Who we Antidote is the remix of Antidote that no body wanted but everyone is thankful for.  Enjoy it and I will see you all back here tomorrow!

0169 - Mighty Mouse Saves the Day!

Today I have what I call a Funk Anthem.  Its a funk track so incredible that it should be fairly universal in its play and love.  It's got great piano, a driving bass, and just puts you in a good mood from start to finish!  Listen to it below and pick up the free download!

Also, the track from Chromeo's album "White Women" is tantalizing.  Sexy Socialite has everything you want.  Stellar vocals, a minimal but necessary bassline, and lyrics to make anyone melt in their seat.  Listen to it below and check out more of their stuff if this is the first you are hearing of their work!

Have a great weekend everyone, enjoy the time off, and don't do anything I wouldn't do! (that leaves free reign to do just about anything btw)

0168 - Opposite Ends of the Spectrum

Today I have two tracks for you, from opposite ends of the musical spectrum, one that goes hard and one that pulls back to a more chill musical view.

First, we go turbo chill.  Imagine a song that you can just close your eyes to and imagine yourself on a beach without a care in the world, the wind in your hair, and the sun hitting you with that perfect temperature.  Now throw in some flute.  Thats what you get from the new track De Nacht from De Hofnar.  WIthout a doubt one of the most chill tracks I have heard in a long time, and it will for sure be accompanying me on my relaxation trip, wherever and whenever that may be.

De Hofnar - De Nacht

Finally we have the incoming remixes of the new track from Pegboard Nerds, Bassline Kickin (You can listen to the original here).  There are more than a few but the three free ones I have for you today come from Astronaut, Silverback, and Dzeko & Torres.  Personally, I like the one from Astronaut better but its likely because the one from Dzeko & Torres is big room which is not my style.  Even the one from Silverback is good as dubstep, but they are all so different its really hard to compare them under the same genre and category.  Listen to them both, pick up the entire remix EP for free, and let me know which one you think is better!

0167 - Lets Have a Friendly Debate

Big song today from Montee, its not my favorite genre, but music has a way of surprising me lately.  This is possibly my new favorite DnB song, or at least top 3.  Check it out and please keep reading, I want your opinions on a song below!
Montee - Conty (Free Download Here)

So thats today's song, but what I want to talk about is the new song from W&W.  When I heard the sample when it was being teased about a month ago, I was excited because I like the stuff W&W puts out.  Everyone was excited and the song was very well hyped all across the internet.  But honestly, I was a bit disappointed, Bigfoot came off very generic and boring to me.  But maybe thats just me, as my tastes seem to be way off the mainstream popularity these days.  I want you all to listen to it and tell me what you think about it!

Bonus Post

So we all know that electronic music has come so far.  From vinyl to Mp3, from overseas to America, and everything in between.  I never really realized how much this umbrella genre has come until I found this awesome mini-documentary done by Armada Music about the progression of dance music and how the stigma changed so drastically over the last 10 years.  How the transition to America and the label of EDM changed music and mainstream electronic artists.  If you have some free time, check it out and let me know what you think.  I like the point they make at the end about how EDM has had a bit of an identity crisis for the last few years, and now things are starting to get less eclectic and hopefully people will begin to find their strides as opposed to trying to cover every genre.  Thankfully a good portion don't and have found their groove and unique sound, musicians like Glitch Mob, Rezonate, and Starcadian come to mind, and I hope the rest of the genre follows suit.  Check out the documentary!

0166 - First appearance of....Mumford?

As we all know, every once in a while the one artist you think, "There could never be a good electro remix of" puts your opinion down like....cant think of a good pun to put here.  Well Bloombox and Sam Feldt have come together to do just that with their remix of I Will Wait by Mumford and Sons.  To be fair, its not very heavy and involves a lot of horns and tonality, which just so happens to be right up my ally.  Check it out below and be sure to come back tomorrow where I want to hear your opinions on a "big" song that just came out that I really think is boring.

0165 - Free for you

No good mashup for today so I have a free song for you instead.

You all know that I love Kygo.  You love Kygo.  Kygo is your master.  He is the Captain of Cool, the Master of mix, and sultan of swag.  His tracks always leave you chilled out and ready to relax and trust me this one is no different.  Free as always, check it out below and add it to your relax playlist because its more of what you love.

0164 - A Gigantic Freebie

Before getting into electronic and dance, I was really big into punk and ska music.  So its great to hear groups like big gigantic coming through and combining these elements.  They have just released their new album for free, and trust me it does not disappoint!  Pick it up for free from their website HERE!

I think my favorite off the album is either Blue Dream or From Dusk Till Dawn both of which you can listen to below in the entire album stream!

Big Gigantic - The Night is Young Album Steam

0163 - The best thing about music?

The best thing about music in my opinion is its continuous ability to surprise.  Through thick and thin, it can come back every week and bring you something that blows your mind, changes your mind about an entire genre, and makes you gain respect for the style all over again.  That happened to me yesterday, when I was listening to the new track from Monstercat.  True, I saw the dark green (meaning Hard Dance) and got a little sad, its not my favorite genre as it seems always a bit too much in my opinion.  From the beginning i was hooked, starting with Piano? Thats one of my favorite things in tracks these days.  The point of too much never hit, it had big bass and dance potential but also remained melodic and fantastic throughout the entire track.  Check it out!

Nanobii - Rainbow Road

0162 - 8-bit is back

As I say every Wednesday, bangers can come in all shapes and sizes.  8-bit is awesome, but the issue is that there is very little great 8-bit tracks.  Most of them give you a headache, are just annoying, or make you want to rip your earphones out.  Artists like Adhesive Wombat get it right, and Wave Racer is my newest addition to this list.  Streamers is an awesome 8-bit/house/bass track that just seems to take you to a tropical state of mind.  Listen to this one and enjoy the relaxation, banger with some funk.

0161 - Glitch Out for a Bit

Today is a momentous day.  One of my favorite groups have released their long awaited new album.  The Glitch Mob is seriously one of the most unique sounding groups that I have ever heard, they don't conform to the usual standard of electronic music.  Instead, they bring their own completely unique and bizarre flavor to the mix, and it usually ends up working pretty flawlessly.  If you haven't heard any of their past work, check out the full Drink The Sea Album or at least We Can Make The World Stop.  I could talk for minutes about each song on the album but I think that I will just let the music Speak for itself and share a few of my favorite tracks from the album, but even then my favorite tracks are every single one from this album.  Support these guys by buying the album, its only $8.99 on iTunes.  And trust me its worth EVERY PENNY, ALL 899 OF THEM.

I Need My Memory Back brings the funk with awesome progression and killer vocals (My favorite track off the album at the present moment)

Carry the Sun is just a big bag of in your face and progression is something to be marveled at.
Can't Kill Us will make you feel invincible
Our Demons will make you want to take on the entire world.
Fly By Night Only just makes you feel like you have accomplished all your goals.
Mind of a Beast just gives off the vibe of rebellion and silent revolution to me.

Skytoucher has most intensity of any song off the album in my opinion, not so much as to overwhelm you but enough to make you feel incredible.
Skullclub I can see becoming the Club anthem off this track: dancable, great rhythm, and I can just see people to dancing the most to this one.
Becoming Harmonious is the most chill, bringing together chill electro and some dubstep.
Beauty of the Unhidden Heart is just beautiful, hard to put this one into words.

0160 - Quad City Swag

Mashup monday is the perfect day to share all of the best unique stuff from the wonderful world of music.  Recently i have taking a love to any remix that involves Quad City Djs song Space Jam because holy shit does it go with everything.  EVERYTHING.  IF YOU THINK IT CAN'T THEN YOU ARE JUST WRONG.  Recently my friends and I made a massive facebook conversation putting all the best ones in, so I figured I would give you my top 5 list of my favorite Quad City DJs mashup tracks.  The thing that gets me on these videos is the transition from the cover to the faces of the Ballers, its ri-god-damn-diculous Check them all out and pick up the 2 that are free (#5 and #1)!

5.  Can't Hold the Slam (Quad City DJ's vs. Macklemore) (Free Download Here)
It makes its way into every song with every kind of music and you can not stop the flow.  Macklemore's smooth beats somehow mesh perfectly with the rhythmic stylings that just remind me of why I love Michael Jordan.  It works and is Mashed up flawlessly.  Check it out and finish the list!

4.  Slamtris (Quad City DJ's vs. Hirokazu Tanaka)
Who would have thought that 8-bit Tetris and this song would work well together? NO ONE EXCEPT ONE GENIUS.  I don't know how this works, but holy smokes is it mindblowing and I want it in my ears every day.

3.  Feel Good Slam (Quad City DJ's vs. Gorillaz)
Words can not express the sheer joy and confusion the first time I heard this song.  In my opinion, Feel Good Inc. is one of the best songs ever.  Combining it with a song that makes me all nostalgic about my childhood and you have a winner in my opinion.  The chill of the song is somehow matched by the intensity of the slowed down version of Space Jam.  Check it out!

2. Penduslam (Quad City DJ's vs. Pendulum)
Seriously?  Even Slam by Pendulum? SERIOUSLY.  Its so good I can't even put it into words.  This list may be a top 5 but that doesn't mean that all of these aren't incredible, its just personal preference.  It still has the DnB feel and the sped up version of Space Jam plays off the fast paced style way too well.

1.  Quad City DJ's vs. Daft Punk - Get Slammy (Radio Edit) (Free Download Here!)
This song trumps the original in my opinion.  I have honestly not listened to it all the way through since I heard this one because I start to sing the words to this over the original.  Its so good, and has such incredible flow that you just cant help but groove.

0159 - Rezonate was Right

After my post yesterday and reading the comments that Rezonate made really got me thinking, and I completely agree with him.  House has become so similar in everything, which I think is why I have become such a lover of funky and chill stuff lately.  There is more room for variability and some people really take it an entirely unique and incredible direction.  I am not saying I don't like it anymore, melodic prog house is still my favorite genre, but the new stuff is all very.....bland.  I haven't heard something that I have fallen in love with instantly in a long time in terms of prog house, but with funk and chill (Like Starcadian, Chromeo, Kill Paris) it seems to happen much more frequently.  Oh, AND I STILL DESPISE BIG ROOM.

Also, I bought tickets to see both Carousel and Hardwell in Columbus.  Hardwell is Sold Out, but I am really much more excited for the Carousel Show.  If anyone wants to join me that lives in the area, tickets are only $15 and I can give you a free couch to sleep on.  Just hit me up.

OK ENOUGH TALK WHERE BE THE MUSIC?

It's right here man, relax, bring it down a notch, and get ready for some free funk.

First up is a brand new remix of Chromeo's track Come Alive (Not Krewella's Alive, I am so sick of remixes of that song).  Done by Le Youth, this first official remix really captures a different look, crossing Nu Disco quite effectively with House for a really great track.  You can stream this one but sadly you can't take it home with you.

I found this next one a while ago, and TSIS is infamous for free downloads expiring so I wanted to share it so you could all pick it up before it expired.  A excellent remix from the Garuda duo that just exemplifies chill house with a dash of funk thrown in the end.  The vocals are awesome to say the least, and its for sure worth picking up to have for yourself.

158 - The Day before the Day after Today

Columbus Got Pooped On.  The schools are still closed even just dealing with the aftermath of yesterday.  Sadly I still have to go into the office, even though that means it will be a very relaxed day doing data entry and making phone calls.  Today I give you....OPTIONS!

Depending on your mood pick the song that fits how you feel, or give them both a listen!

Excited/Hyper/Crazy/Happy-
Monstercat just released a new one from Razihel, and its awesome.  Intense, up there, with awesome beats and big bass.  But also a very nice instrumental interlude of sorts, a great house song to help you get through the day!
Razihel - Renzokuken

Chill/Relaxed/Nostalgic/ Nonchalant
Rezonate just released his new EP.  Taking an entirely new direction, I read an interview with him and he basically said he stopped making house/electronic house because it was too boring.  He now is in the business of something that we don't get to see very often: he has switched to melodic, slow, beautiful, and chill.  Its incredible to say the least.  Check it out and if you like this one, then grab the EP.

0157 - Snowed In

SNOW DAY BABY!
Currently sitting in my bed still waiting for the inspiration to stand up and make something to eat.  Haha but I have a great free banger for everyone today.  Its a remix from Jay Cosmic that has everything you want.  Something awesome that you can take home with you.  Check out the song and enjoy your hopefully snow day.

0156 - The Warm was a Lie

Its getting cold again.  Christ why cant we just have some snow and some brisk 25 degree weather as opposed to the 1/10th sheet of ice and 5-10inches that Columbus is supposed to get starting around 5.  But hey, that may mean a snow day tomorrow so I have my fingers crossed.  Until then, don't let it get to you, let future you worry about that stuff.

The Knocks are back.
The Knocks put out some great stuff, including the basis for one of my favorite remixes to date (The Knocks - Brightside (The FatRat Remix)) and they have just released the first song off their soon to be released Comfortable EP.  And let me tell you it is funk tabulous.  Not the usual deep funk that people are used to hearing, but a bit of disco thrown in.  The addition of The Ambassadors really brings Comfortable to life.  Listen to it below and keep an eye out for their EP which drops soon!  See you back here tomorrow with a free song for Banger Wednesday!

0155 - The Day After

First of all, that game last night was a beat down.  A slaughter.  Props to the Seahawks.  In terms of music, that show from Bruno Mars was surprisingly enjoyable.  He is really talented and put on a damn good show, especially with that surprise show up from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Before the show, Timeflies released a special mashup bringing together the hits of both Bruno Mars and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Red Hot Bruno Peppers is a bit eclectic but I like the flow and the combination really got me pumped up for the Halftime show at the Super Bowl.  I hope you enjoy it, and don't let Monday get you down!

Timeflies - Red Hot Bruno Peppers
