Update

Hey folks.  I'm with my family in Michigan for the next few days.  So no more music this week.  I will do double music next week to make up for it.  Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!

0107 - Bring Down the House

Today I bring you a pretty great track, one that is not only really well done, but one that also just gives me a really good refreshing feeling.  Something about this chorus just hits me something fierce, something that hasn't happened in a long time.  Audien really does an incredible job of providing a great uptempo catchy beat with a nice driving base that does not rule the track while Michael S. provides a great synergistic set of vocals.  Listen to the track and let me know what you think of it!  See you back here tomorrow, same time, same place for Banger Wednesday!

0106 - Short Week, Big Songs

Thanksgiving week is finally upon us!  A week of short work and school weeks, family, football, and celebration.  This means that it is already wednesday for most of you! (or thursday for those done on tuesday!)  I hope that you all have plans for this day, and if you don't, then reach out and help someone who may not have the opportunity to see their family for the holiday.  Quick story, that is what happened to me last year.  I was waiting tables at a new job and had to work thanksgiving day, so I was stuck in Delaware, Ohio while my entire family was in Michigan.  I was devastated, and very sad about this unfortunate situation.  Thankfully a local fraternity brother who worked at the same restaurant reached out and suggested I join his family for Thanksgiving.  I was overjoyed just to be around people, and not spending it alone in a room with microwave food and too much beer.  It made all the difference in my life, and I hope that this inspires you to do the same.  It was such a small gesture but went such a long way and I can't thank Preston and his family enough for that.
Even though it is a short week, it is still technically Monday which means mashup day is back once again.  Today's mashup I first heard on Hype Machine, a website devoted to streaming some of the best new original songs and popular remixes of those songs.  With a play as you browse tool, you never have to worry about the song stopping because you want to search something else.  Dada Life is one of the first live acts I saw in terms of electronic music, and they blew me away.  Seriously, their music was mind blowing and likely one of the reasons I am where I am today.  This remix is god damn incredible, seriously a great dubstep mix with the awesome power that comes behind Dada Life's original.  Have a great night and I will see you all tomorrow!

0105 - Friday Took Its Damn Time

This week has been a long one, longer than usual.  Maybe its just me and the 12hr work days, a constant flow of things to do with little to no free time, spontaneously falling asleep (I guess thats what happens when you only average 4-5 hrs of sleep a night), or the stress of applying for a new job.  Thankfully the weekend is here, and I have worked extra hard this week to find my loyal listeners some good tracks to help melt into the weekend and just forget about all the crazy shit that was this week.  Lets start with the chill stuff and get heavier as we go.

First is a crazy new remix of Marvin Gaye's legendary song, Sexual Healing.  Its unexpected but trust me, it works just as well as you think it can't.  The song is already really chill, but this remix takes the track to a whole new level.  The original is hard to beat, but in terms of a funky and chill remix, this one takes the cake.  Kygo blows my expectations out of the water, and it should be the track you kick up your feet to before going out tonight or just relaxing with some friends and some background music.  Give it a try, and pick it up for free!

Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing (Kygo Remix)

The second thing I am excited to share with you all is a new hour long remix that really had me very excited and in a really good mood.  OWSLA Presents Teddy Killerz Mix (Vol. II) is full of great tracks that mix very well together, some of them I can see not being a fan of by themselves, but the synergy is pretty damn good and that easily makes up for it.  OWSLA is behind producers such as Dillion Francis, The M Machine, Porter Robinson, Showtek, Rusko, Seven Lions, and so many more talents.  So when I saw this new mix from a artist I had never heard of, I instantly gave them some credit and recognition.  This remix does not disappoint, and I look forward to hearing more from Teddy Killerz in the future!  Check out the mix, and grab the hour long set for free!  Have a great weekend everybody, enjoy your time away from the insanity, and I will see you back here Monday for a whole new week of music!

0104 - Thank God its Thursday

This week has been rediculous.  Seriously, work has been killing me with these 12 hours days, life has just been rough.  Working with the Traktor software, but its taking me a bit longer than anticipated because I don't have the free time that I wanted this week.  But thank the lord, the weekend is almost here!  Praise the beats!

Today's track is one that has been on my post list for a long time, and I am really excited to share it with you all.  Living with a crazy roommate who loved rap music has made me fairly partial to certain rappers, but some of the ones he loved were just too much.  This track features one of those artists, Cam'ron.  Wolfgang Gartner does the beats and background while Jim Jones and Cam'ron provide the vocals.  If you don't listen to that much music by Wolfgang, then you seriously need to go torrent everything he has ever done, without a doubt he is in my top 5 for favorite musicians right now.  True, lyrically they aren't the most incredibly written verses ever, but they fit the beat in the sense that they are down, dirty, and would combine into a great club song.  Circus is the perfect thing to talk about in this song because when I see this getting dropped, the people would just go insane from the mixture of rap and electro.  I hope you enjoy it and I will see you back here tomorrow for funky/free Friday!

Wolfgang Gartner - Circus Freaks feat. Jim Jones and Cam'ron

Also As a little bonus, here is the official preview for a song I am actually very excited for.  The preview is only 50 seconds, but if the entire song is anything like it, it may be one of the few good things to come out of the Armada Music Youtube account.

0103 - MY LEG

This is the song I associate with the phrase "MY LEG" a phrase my friends and I use to notify the other team members that we are in trouble while playing online games.  Mostly because, everytime someone has said it in the last few days, this song has been playing.  If you read this blog pretty frequently, you know how big of a fan of progressive house I am.  Its consistanly my favorite genre hands down, and trust me that is not going to change anytime soon (although bounce and funky are a close tie for 2nd).  The song has literally everything you could ever want in a great prog. house song; exquisite build, tonality that you will be humming for days, and just a great overall feeling in your body, one that few tracks can grant me these days it seems.  Enjoy this one and I will see you back here tomorrow!  Same time, same good music, nothing wrong with that.

0102 - Brought to you by a friend

Today's track comes to you from one of my good friends, who shares the interest in chill electronic music that I have fallen in love with lately.  He is the one who always shares awesome melodic dubstep, chill electro, and is the guy who introduced me to Ronald Jenkees.  If you don't know who Ronald Jenkees is BAD. BAD YOU. Go to youtube right now and listen to his stuff right now, because he is one of the few people who seems to compose their tracks.  On the topic of melodic and chill electro, the Singularity remix of this track from PeaceTreaty is really one that leaves nothing to be desired in addition.  The track is near flawless in terms of the genre it jumps at, chill, relaxing, but also a driving bass behind beautiful vocals.  Check it out, and be sure to come back tomorrow for Banger Wednesday!

0101

Welcome to the turn!  100 posts down, countless more to come!  Lets get this goin right with an awesome dose of Mashup Monday!

Mashups have always impressed me, but there something so much more awe-inspiring about seeing the person do it live.  Like Madeon's Pop Culture, this track is also performed right in front of your eyes on 2 beatpads and is really awesome!  Incorporating about 52 songs, ssShawnnnnn brings a mashup that brings together music that shouldnt work, but does.  Tracks all over the spectrum ranging from Paramore's Misery Business, to Skrillex's track Bangarang, to Will Smith's Gettin' Jiggy Wit It.  Seriously, there is nothing wrong with this mashup and everything right with it!  Usually mashups that try to incorporate too many songs end up feeling jumbled and confusing, but this one has such a nice flow that you can barely even tell half of the songs are in there until you listen very hard for it!  Enjoy and I will see you back here tomorrow!

100 - Triple Digits!

Before I start anything, let me just say HOLY SHIT I love you all so much.  100 posts and 2,000+ page views, and I am honestly speechless.  This blog has been such an incredible outlet for me to share the music I love with people, and the response has been mind blowing.  Thank you so much for coming back day after day and listening to my rants, enjoying music with me, and contesting my opinions with "cabbage".  Seriously, I can't express my thanks enough.  So here's to hundreds more posts and hundreds of more songs!

I have chosen some very fitting songs for today; one of which is chill and one of which is funky as a mother.

First off is the chill track, brought to you by my new top tier main man, Armin van Buuren.  I chose this song because the song is titled, "This is What It Feels Like".  Very fitting to today's unique situation, especially because the song is awesome, just like every single one of you that come back here every day.  Check it out and kick up your feet, because trust me, it feels damn good.

The second track is all about the funk.  Funky is seriously one of my favorite genres to search for and share, because holy smokes is there some crazy unique stuff out there.  Cabinett really delivers with this track; It has a bit of a sprite feel, a nice and smooth build, and drops into pure funky gold.  I swears it.  Give it a listen!  Have a great and awesome weekend everybody, see you back here Monday morning!

099 - BOUNCE DAMNIT

So apparently there is a new subgenre called bounce.
Its fucking incredible.
Imagine ska trumpets + edm.
YEA. THAT GOOD.
Honestly, you all know I love Monstercat.  When ever there is a new song I get super giddy, but this one honestly blew all my expectations out of the water.....with a torpedo....made of biceps.  Seriously, this is my new favorite song.  Full of great rhythms and even a trumpet build...to a trumpet drop.  This song is the direction I hope that EDM can transition toward and get out of the boring and repetitive genres like Big Room.  Give it a listen and let me know what you think!

098 - Finding the Hidden Gems

Finding music for this blog I have to listen to a lot of songs.  Well I guess I shouldn't say that I have to, I get to, but what this really means is that I listen to dozens of songs daily that all sound so generic and exactly the same in order to find one that I love and can share with you all.  I subscribe to 7 or 8 Youtube music channels, check 3 or 4 blogs, go to Beatport, and go just about anywhere I can find.  Surprisingly, the ones that I like the best are the small ones.  The channels/websites that have videos with small amount of views usually yield the best and worst tracks, while the big ones all seem to be consistent and honestly that gets boring from time to time.  Its all about patience, perseverance, and the faith that you will find that one track that makes all the bad ones worth it.

Also, Traktor Pro 2 is a bit more challenging than anticipated.  It may take me a bit longer then anticipated to get this mix out for you all but I assure you, its being made about as fast as I can!

This one comes from one of those little known channels that I follow.  Like Armada, this is one of the channels that produces a lot of really generic stuff, but every once in a while a track comes out that blows my mind.  Enzo Daren is a musician that I honestly do not know that much about, and this is the first track I have heard by him, but it will not be the last.  This track has just about everything that you could want in a good banger; great progression, impressive tonality, catchy melody, a nice build, and a drop that is well deserved.  Honestly this seems to be the direction that Big Room needs to return to because I am so tired of going onto Beatport and finding seven of the top 10 songs in every category to be just utter crap. Check it out below and I will see you all back here tomorrow!

097 - So Chill You'll Need A Jacket

First of all, before we get to the music, another small update.

My plan last night was to get home and immediately start playing around with my mixer, of course I get home and have to update my Mac's OS.  Thankfully it was free, sadly it took 3 hours.  After all that was said and done, I got to play with it for all of 20min before having to crash.  This means I am doing just this for the next few days so I can have something for you all by the weekend!

Now, a track so chill that it started snowing.  I swear to you, this one is seriously the most relaxing and chill electro track that I have heard in a damn long time.  First of all, the original is by Ellie Goulding, who all of you know I am in love with.  This song.....may be in my top 3 favorites by her, along with Burn and Stay Awake.  Its so incredibly chill that honestly words cant even describe it because I would end up just repeating the same thing over and over again.  Check it out and get the free download!  Banger Wednesday tomorrow!

096 - Monday Magic

Happy Monday everybody, welcome to another long work week that we will do our damn best to get through alive.

First of all, I have purchased a mixer, a traktor S2! It is really really awesome but the issue is that the program (Traktor Pro 2) it comes with is not the VirtualDJ program that I have become so accustomed to so I am still working out the kinks and will hopefully have everything figured out in the next few days.  This may mean that the first mix of (name redacted) will likely be the weekend at the earliest.  That will make it a nice little weekend bonus for everyone, one that I hope everyone is excited for because you have no idea how excited I am.

Mashup Monday today brings you a mashup from Hardwell combining a few pretty big songs from the recent past.  He combines Epic, by Quintino and Sandro Silva, with Changed the Way You Kissed Me, by Example, into a song that is something of pure beauty.   These two songs by themselves are awesome and the combination is one that doesn’t seem to work until you realize how wrong you were.

095 - Yo Mama Cant Stop It

Finally the end to a long and actually painful week.  Hope you all have big plans this weekend, because who are we kidding, this weekend is going to be about as necessary as they come.  As for me, I am getting a second opinion on my ribs, hopefully its a good one.  Lets get to the music because everyone needs some funk and a double dose of free stuff to get through the day today!

First, we bring the free.  Halloween tracks were all over the walls last week, however, it seemed that very few of them were actually any good.  Before going to bed last week I found that Monstercat had posted one that I missed.  7 Minutes Dead released their third track with Monstercat titled Act III, and let me tell you, this one may take the proverbial Halloween cake.  Its an electro song that has a very spooky vibe to it, like it should be in a goofy survival horror game.  This allows it to get pretty vivid though, because you can feel the picture that it is trying to paint as the song progresses.  It doesn't have any huge bass drops, but then again this proves that you don't need them to make an incredible track.  Enjoy it and get the free download!

Now onto the funky and free.  This is a track I randomly stumbled on during the few days I was sick a while back.  This one stuck out because of the constant bass/synth back that really got my head bobbing without me even noticing it.  Just another track that proves you don't need huge drops to be successful, just something that is catchy and gets people excited.  Its a bit 8-bit and a whole lot Nu-Disco.  This one is just a feel good track that makes you want to move you feet and just kick it.  If you like it, the entire EP is available for free download!  Hope you enjoy it, and I will see you all back here on Monday!  Don't do anything I wouldn't do (which means you can do just about anything that doesn't get you arrested)!

094 - Update Time

So I figured I would just give everyone a little update on what is going on with me and my plans for the future.  Over the weekend I injured myself quite seriously, bruising a rib and rupturing some cartilage in my rib cage.  This means I can not do any intensive physical activity for some time, but this is a good sign because I plan to use that time to start mixing some music.  I am going to go out and finally buy the mixer I have been looking at (thankfully the financial issues I was having before have been somewhat resolved) and hope to have something in the form of a demo coming out very soon (hopefully in time for the 100th post of this blog).  Also, I am considering a name change.  DJ Absonewtly was a great name for my radio personality, but now that I am starting to mix my own music, I think I want to change to something a little more official.  Unsure but I will keep you all posted.

Speaking of music that I want to mix, this track is already in said playlist to be added to my first mix that I plan to make.  TJR released this a few months ago and it has taken off in terms of popularity over that time.  Whats Up Suckaz has just about everything that makes up a great and quality song: upbeat and catchy tonality, a nice big bass to hit you in your face, extreme danceability in the sense that the song evolves and becomes something I can easily see doing well on a club dance floor, and extremely high replay value.  Not to mention, the vocal samples leading into the drops only intensify how awesome they are.  Enjoy and see you back tomorrow for Free/Funky Friday!

093 - Beatport Has Failed Me

So this morning, like I do every few days, I went to Beatport to listen to the top 10 tracks in my favorite genres: House, Prog. House, Electronic House, and Deep House.  I could not be more frustrated with teh results that I found today.  Ok, I know that I have already taken a Soap Box here about Big Room but this is getting a bit out of hand.  They all seem great, have a nice build up, and then just seems to stop trying entirely.  There are maybe a handful of Big Room that I can tolerate, let alone play and share with other people.  In order to find good music though, you have to sift through all of this crap until you find the one song that makes it all worth it.  Today I found two such songs.

First is a song that I had a bit of an eargasm the first time I listened to it.  Just the prime example of how Progressive House can be done correctly, as opposed to Big Room Progressive which seems to be becoming a thing.  True, the drop is simplistic, but it has melodic tones and progression that really caught me off guard.  This track from Deorro is not to be missed, especially if you are a big Progressive fan.  (this has been added to the list for my first mix methinks)

The second track is a song that I can not really pinpoint why I like it.  Its strange in so many ways.  It has a house feel, a moomba feel, and a slow DnB feel all kinda mixed into one eclectic song, but it hits me in a very good way.  Its not a Banger in the sense that it would be on the Radio and loved by everyone who hears it, this track is obviously not going to be loved by everyone who hears it.  The first time I did, it sounded like way too much in one space, but the more I have listened to it, the more it makes sense.  Spinnin' Records is usually very hit or miss with my tastes, and this one by Showtek is a big hit.

092 - Another Ride on the Carousel

Yesterday I was contacted by one of my good friends from High School and member of the awesome chill electronic/pop group, Carousel.  They just released a video for one of their newer songs, and if you enjoyed their past songs, you will love this one.  The song is Another Day and is all about falling for a girl and wanting to spend another day with her.  The song is the perfect blend of chill electronic and just the right amount of pop vibes, really just one of those songs that makes you feel good and relaxed on the inside.  The video takes a little girls imagination of playing with her dolls and brings it to life.  It perfectly reflects the lyrical content of the song, which seems to be a rare quality in music videos these days.  Another great song from Carousel, and another great chill track to get you through the week.  I keep telling them, come to the Midwest and I will be at that show in a heartbeat.  Spots in my car are available if anyone wants to tag along!  Enjoy and I will see you back here tomorrow for Banger Wednesday!

Also, if you have a minute, go vote for their video as well!  The vote would really help and I know they would appreciate it!

091 - Different Sides Collide

Mashup Monday is back in full swing and I am very excited to be back.  Hope you all had a great weekend because HOOO boy do I have some news to share with all of you.

So this past weekend I went to Sugoicon in Cincinatti, an annual gaming and anime convention.  It was awesome, my friends DJ XMFD and DJ Retox played the raves, I went to some panels, saw some friends, and had a damn great time.  The most exciting news though is that apparently at one of the smaller raves that happens throughout the year, DJs are scarce, especially because their only 2 last time cancelled on them.  My convention friend Zerker (for the record he is the one who is involved in the Sleeping Samurai, the mock fighting group where the DJ sword battle (can be found on youtube) was shot, and the one who let me mix my first live set in the same room) knows the people who run it.  Apparently they need serious DJs who have no chance of backing out and he said he may be able to get my name in the mix!  HOLY SHIT.  This is like a dream come true, Zerker, I don’t know if you are reading this but I love you and would honestly kill for this opportunity.  If it pans out, more details to come in the future, if not, its not the end of the world.  Anyway, best moment of the convention was at the rave Friday night where a guy dressed as Jesus was showing off some pretty sweet dance moves and the whole crowd was chanting, “JESUS! JESUS! JESUS!”

Alright, lets get to the music for the day.  The mashup that I chose for today is one which is a bit different.  The combination of Wolfgang Gartner and Bob Marley is one that no one could have ever seen coming because they are on opposite sides of the music world, but Flikhou5 somehow made it work.  This mashup works works incredible well with the chilling vocals of Marley and the synchronized build and drop matching the vocals by Gartner.  Enjoy it!

090 - Weekend Swag

The weekend is finally here.  Hope that everyone is alright after Halloween last night.  Im not but thats only because the power at my house went out for a bit and the storm kept me from going to see the midnight release of Ender's Game.  Oh well, the weekend is here.  Time to let your inhibitions fly and go to Halloween Parties, just relax, or go to a convention (which is what I will be doing).  In honor of a rough week, I present you with one dose of funky, one dose of just awesome, and one dose of spooky.

 DOSE 1: The Funk
Sparx - The Odyssey
Funky as they come and you can't handle it.  This one is seriously funky and I love it so much.  A great combination of funk and electro house, this track by Sparx really delivers just about everything you could want in a unique funk track.  Check it out for sure!

DOSE 2: The Awesome:
Armin Van Buuren - Pulse (Cosmic Gate Remix)
I will be honest, though I listen to everything Armada Music releases, a large portion of it is very repetitive, boring, or just plain not interesting.  However, there are a few diamonds in the rough, and this track happens to be one of them.  A remix of Armin Van Buuren's track Pulse, Cosmic Gate does a truly excellent job of bringing this track back to life.  Seriously, this one is one that is not to be missed!  The video came out today and for some reason I can not embed it, so click the link above!

DOSE 3: The Spooky
Click here for Trip or Treat vol 2!
This is an awesome 11 song Mixtape called Trip or Treat volume 2 that is available for free download through thissongissick.com.  These songs are all a little out there and pretty unique in a spooky, but satisfying way.  I think of all 11 tracks the first is my favorite, because of beginning and the drop is satisfying as hell.  Even though its not Halloween anymore, this mixtape is for sure worth the free download!  Below is the first song off the mixtape.
